How much do you know about Shenzhen to Hong Kong cargo transport ports? In this article, we will shortly introduce to you the 5 land logistics ports connecting Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

It’s very important to know this knowledge if you are frequently importing goods from China!

There are seven land ports at the Shenzhen-Hong Kong border: Liantang (Heung Yuen Wai) Port, Luohu Port, Wenjindu Port, Huanggang (Lok Ma Chau) Port, Shenzhen Bay Port, Futian (Lok Ma Chau Spur Line) Port, and Sha Tau Kok Port. Except for Luohu Port and the Futian Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Port, which are railway crossings, the other five ports are road crossings with cargo inspection functions.

Shenzhen Bay Port, one of the largest Shenzhen To Hong Kong Cargo Transport Ports

Located at Dongjiaotou, Shekou, Shenzhen Bay Port connects with Hong Kong’s Ngau Hom Shek and officially opened in July 2007. It is currently the largest integrated passenger and cargo border road port in Asia and operates 24 hours a day.

Shenzhen Bay Port - One of the Shenzhen To Hong Kong Cargo Transport Ports

This port operates under the “co-location arrangement” inspection mode. The Shenzhen Bay Bridge connects Hong Kong’s northwest New Territories with Shekou, Shenzhen, reinforcing Hong Kong’s role as a commercial and logistics center in the Pearl River Delta and greatly expanding trade between Hong Kong and southern mainland China.

Liantang (Heung Yuen Wai) Port

Known as Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point in Hong Kong and Liantang Port in Shenzhen, this port is located at the border of Hong Kong’s northeastern New Territories and Shenzhen’s Luohu District. In Hong Kong, it connects to the Heung Yuen Wai Highway, completed in 2023, and in Shenzhen, it connects to the Eastern Shenzhen Expressway.

Its opening has shortened travel time between Hong Kong and eastern Shenzhen and alleviated cross-border freight traffic at land ports, enhancing the efficiency of cross-border logistics.

Huanggang (Lok Ma Chau) Port

Before the reconstruction of other ports, Huanggang (Lok Ma Chau) Port was the only port with 24-hour clearance between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Lok Ma Chau Port, located on Hong Kong’s San Tin Highway, connects with Shenzhen’s Huanggang Port via a bridge over the Shenzhen River. It is a crucial transport hub, facilitating convenient travel and logistics between the two regions.

Wenjindu Port

Opened in 1979, Wenjindu Port was one of the two land ports connecting Shenzhen and Hong Kong during China’s early reform and opening-up period (the other being Luohu Port). Its establishment marked a historic step in Guangdong-Hong Kong clearance, allowing freight trucks operating in both regions to move directly between Hong Kong and the mainland. This port handles the largest volume of fresh agricultural and fishery exports from the mainland to Hong Kong, with a cross-border road bridge linking the two regions.

Sha Tau Kok Port

Built in 1985 and upgraded with a new cross-border bridge in 2005, Sha Tau Kok Port serves both passengers and cargo. It has 10 vehicle inspection lanes, 15 inspection platforms, and 22 passenger inspection lanes, along with facilities specifically for transferring coffins from Hong Kong to the mainland.

Summary:

Trucks carrying cross-border freight between Shenzhen and Hong Kong must apply at border ports before clearance. Customs verifies the cargo information before allowing passage.

Prior to this, trucks need to complete the necessary registration, and drivers must hold licenses valid in both Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

The entire freight transport process also involves road manifesting, customs declaration, seamless integration, and Hong Kong customs clearance. To ensure efficient and smooth delivery to the destination, these processes are generally handled by professionals or specialized companies.

That’s the short but useful info of Shenzhen to Hong Kong cargo transport ports.
